Spray-on flavors for kids make
eating vegetables palatable
CHICAGO, IL (BUSINESS WIRE) - Children who leave
their vegetables until the last might find themselves gobbling up those
peas, beans, spinach and broccoli when they're dressed up in flavors that
echo pizza or barbecue.
World Cuisine Oils, a new line of seasoned sprays introduced by Columbus
Foods of Chicago, is gearing up to appeal especially to the finicky-vegetable
eater set -- usually, but not exclusively, dominated by children.
"Parents are always struggling to find ways to get their kids to
eat more vegetables," said Mike Gagliardo, president of Columbus Foods.
"In Britain, a company is experimenting with chocolate flavored carrots.
Our aim is to keep foods as natural-tasting as possible, but enhanced with
exciting flavors."
World Cuisine Oils offers eight flavors in non-aerosol pump bottles:
Italian, Oriental, Cajun, Southwestern, olive, garlic, butter and corn.
A blend of pure vegetable vegetable oils and natural spices, each serving
(an average of 10 sprays) adds only one gram of fat while rendering a robust,
aromatic flavor to any dish.
Vegetables that are steamed, microwaved, grilled or stir-fried can be
pump-sprayed to taste either before or after cooking.
"This is a healthy, natural way to make vegetables more attractive
to kids," Gagliardo said. "I've test-marketed it on my own kids
and it really works. Even some of the more `grown-up' flavors like olive
and Cajun get them eating vegetables with more enthusiasm."
World Cuisine Oils retail from $2.49 to $3.29 per four-ounce bottle,
good for approximately 920 sprays, of 100 servings and are available in
stores nationwide. For more information, contact Columbus Foods Co. at 800/322-6457. |
