Innovative software publisher earns
national software award for "Math Heads"
EMERYVILLE, CA - For the second year in a row, Theatrix Interactive earned a coveted Codie award, presented
by the Software Publishers Association (SPA).
This year, Math Heads, the innovative and irreverent problem-solving
title from Theatrix, garnered Best Home Education Program for Adolescents.
For the two years combined, Theatrix has won Codies for the lead products
in each of its three most popular product series: the Heads, Hollywood,
and Juilliard series.
The SPA's Excellence in Software Awards, popularly know as the Codies,
are the software industry's equivalent of the motion picture industry's
Oscars and television's Emmys. More than 100 media reviewers selected the
finalists from hundreds of titles nominated from over 350 software publishers.
The winners were selected in balloting by the SPA membership.
"Our winning again at this year's Codie Awards is yet another stamp
of approval from the software publishing industry for the entire Theatrix
product line," said Joyce Hakansson, founder and creative director
of Theatrix. "It's gratifying to be recognized by the SPA for the quality
and value our innovative products have for consumers, especially children."
Math Heads, created for 10 to 14 year olds, helps kids explore "mental
math" through an outrageous parody of television. Children create their
own characters and bring them to life as contestants and featured guests
on Math Head TV, a crazy interactive world that puts kids directly on TV.
In 1996, Theatrix took home three Codie awards, more than any other publisher
of educational or entertainment software. Hollywood, the forerunner to Hollywood
High, was named Best Home Creativity Software Program. Juilliard Music Adventure,
an adventure-style game that introduces children to the wonders of music,
won in both the Best Use of Music or Sound in Multimedia and the Best Education
Program for Middle School categories.
Theatrix' eight titles have won more than 40 major awards since the company
began publishing and marketing its own titles under the Theatrix brand just
18 months ago. All of the Theatrix titles were developed internally by the
Theatrix development group. Previously, for more than 13 years, Theatrix
Interactive was a contract developer for other publishers, having designed
or developed award-winning software titles such as Write, Camera, Action!
for Broderbund Software, The Cruncher for Davidson & Associates, Inc.,
as well as Millie's Math House and Bailey's Book House for Edmark Corp.
Theatrix Interactive, Inc., based in Emeryville, Calif., develops, publishes,
markets and distributes children's educational software. Theatrix focuses
on helping kids, ages 8 to 14, develop reasoning, problem solving, and creative
skills through highly engaging products that feature compelling story lines,
hilarious characters, and exploratory environments. Theatrix titles include
Big Science Comics, Build-A-Book with Roberto, Bumptz Science Carnival,
Hollywood, Hollywood High, Juilliard Music Adventure, Math Heads and Snootz
Math Trek. |
