High school student council
passes conduct code

WEST HARTFORD, CT - The student council at Conard High School has imposed a new code of conduct on itself by unanimous vote. Covered under the new code are issues related to drinking, fighting, smoking and the use of drugs.

Some members of the council have refused to sign the pledge, but will have an opportunity to rethink the situation when another opportunity to sign comes up March 3. Some of those who did not sign, were not present for the vote last week.

Council President Aram Zamgochian asked members to sign the pledge after some of the 50 member council showed up drunk at a school dance last October.

Proponents of the pledge feel they are leaders and role models for the student body and should therefor act in accordance with thier station.

Those opposed feel they should not be held to a higher standard just because they are student council members and that the school should not get involved in what a student does on his own free time.
