home buyer guide

Why did you write this book?

I see a definite need for a “nuts-and-bolts” book that explains the entire home buying process. Most people really don’t know what a mortgage is or how it works, yet they commit themselves to 30 years of paying for one.

Owning your dream home is a wonderful ideal, but there are pitfalls along the way which few people will warn you about.

The Home Buyer’s Companion will save you money by helping you avoid costly mistakes.

Will there be a sequel?

Always! I continually update The Home Buyer’s Companion with the information you need. The 2nd edition of The Home Buyer’s Companion is now available. Content has increased by 50% and I have included a chapter for renters who are trying to decide if buying is the better option. The surprising answer: not every time. Get the book and discover why.

Send me your suggestions and let’s start a dialogue. If I use any of what you suggest, I will certainly give you credit in my next book. I’ll even send you a complimentary copy!

What are your qualifications for writing this book?
Are you a professional writer or a professional real estate person?

I have a degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech, but that has not stopped me from spending time with what I truly enjoy – real estate.

I managed apartment buildings in Los Angeles for the last twenty years. They ranged in size from 75 to 100 units each.

I have also been involved in syndication with foreign investors and have purchased numerous homes for my own investment portfolio.

I am renting now. Does it make sense for me to buy?

That depends on many factors. Home buying does not benefit everyone. Your personal situation will be the deciding factor.

I have included a very thorough study of renting and buying. You would be wise to read this before making any decision.

Is it a big book?

If by “big”, you mean lots of pages, the answer is no. Once you take all the fluff and nonsense out of most books, you’re left with facts. The facts on buying a home take up 107 pages. Any more is a waste of your time.

The Home Buyer’s Companion measures a little less than 6" x 9". It will fit neatly in your glove box. You can fold it up and put it in your purse or pocket. In other words, you can take it with you when you go house hunting.

What if I am not happy with the book ?

If it’s not what you expected, then I will refund your money – no hassles. It’s that simple!
