The challenge: Take an electrician from the sticks who knows more about the practical aspects of solar technology than most Ph.Ds and set him apart from the myriad solar power sites on the Internet. The solution: Introduce the viewer to the people behind the business and keep everything friendly and low-tech. The skinny: This business, like most, is more about people than solar collectors, amps and watts. So Bob, the electrician here, needs to come across as knowledgeable, skilled and friendly. Too often, we present a business as bricks and mortar, giving little heed the dedicated souls who are charged with keeping the customer happy. Of course, my job is made easy by the fact that Bob is a really decent guy who knows his stuff. To accomplish my goal, I interviewed one of Bobs customers and took a whole bunch of pictures. The result is play-by-play of Bobs work in scrapbook form with color commentary supplied by his customers. To add some spice to the site, I designed the navigation buttons to look like a schematic, a drawing of an electrical circuit. When you place your pointer over the button, the circuit closes, the button lights up and so does the lightbulb Bob is holding in his hand. Try it out! Click on the link below. |
